Hector Bellerin is eager to extend his stay in Spain with Real Betis after a successful season in La Liga during a loan transfer from parent club Arsenal, according to football.london.
The full-back has revived his career at the Benito Villamarin Stadium as a key part of coach Manuel Pellegrini’s side. He fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium last term, while Takehiro Tomiyasu swiftly solidified himself as the first-choice this season.
Arteta signed Tomiyasu after sanctioning Bellerin’s exit, having only fielded the 27-year-old in three of Arsenal’s final 13 Premier League fixtures last season. The four-cap La Roja star has since opened 20 of his La Liga outings this term and three Europa League ties.
Bellerin is now keen to extend his loan transfer with Real Betis than return to Arsenal and potentially play under Arteta next season. He will also enter the final year of his Gunners contract in June. But the north Londoners hold an option to extend by another 12-months.
Arsenal may trigger the clause to protect the £110k-a-week dynamo’s market value. But Real Betis could also seek to use the situation to agree better terms for a permanent deal.
HECTOR BELLERIN KEEN TO EXTEND REAL BETIS LOAN SPELL FROM ARSENAL
Talks between Arsenal and Real Betis over Bellerin’s future will occur ahead of the summer transfer window, football.london recently claimed. Los Verdiblancos and the Gunners have delayed meeting until the end of the season to let both sides focus on their current goals
Arsenal and Real Betis could both qualify for the Champions League over the final weeks of the term. The Gunners last finished in the top-four of the Premier League table in 2015/16. As for Los Verdiblancos, the Seville natives last finished in La Liga’s top-four in 2004/05.
Real Betis exited the following Champions League term third in Group G behind Liverpool and Chelsea. So, Bellerin – who Ian Wright says was an ‘unbelievable servant’ for Arsenal – may be a welcome addition if Pellegrini returns Real Betis to UEFA’s top club competition.
