Trevoh Chalobah has had a pretty astronomical season, catapulted from what was expected to be a Championship level loan into the Chelsea starting XI for long stretches this season.
We haven’t had a chance to hear much from the quiet and humble kid about his journey over the last 12 months, but finally Football.London have secured a lengthy interview with him.
A year ago he was doing well at relegation threatened Lorient in Ligue 1, but how did he go from that to 21 appearances (by February) for his boyhood club?
A lot seems to do with how he behaved over the summer. In the interview, he reveals he did extra work before preseason so he could impress Thomas Tuchel from the moment he got back:
“I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t know if I was going to go on loan or if I was going to leave [permanently]. I just made sure I came back fit – I even did extra work before I came back,” he explained.
It clearly worked – the Euros meant that some of his teammates returned late, and Chalobah took his chance in the UEFA Super Cup and never looked back.
