Man City are increasingly frustrated with Jack Grealish – and their record signing is complaining behind the scenes.
A City source has told Football Insider that the club are “not happy” with the 26-year-old as he continues to struggle to live up to his billing as well as massive fee and wages.
The Premier League champions were convinced Grealish would improve an already all-conquering team when they announced his capture from Aston Villa last summer for £100million on a six-year deal.
But that has not proved to be the case and he has struggled to even nail down a regular starting role.
The source explained that Pep Guardiola and his staff are in no doubt about Grealish’s talent but he has struggled to fit into their style of play.
At Villa the team was set up to maximise his dribbling ability on the left flank and relied upon him for creativity and cutting edge.
At City, Grealish is one of many outstanding players and he is said to have whinged behind the scenes about not having enough of the ball.
There is a feeling that the club would have been better off spending the money on Harry Kane last summer or saving it up to get the Erling Haaland deal over the line this year.
City are nonetheless the favourites to land Haaland but could have to offload one or two first teamers to afford his £68m fee and what will be huge wages.
The outlay of the Grealish deal was also jawdropping, with the £100m fee topped up by a £350,000-a-week salary over six years and costing around £210m in total.
Grealish has played 29 times for City this season, with his 2110 minutes of action yielding only four goals and three assists.
He played the full 90 minutes of both their Premier League games before the international break, but has started only 17 of their 29 in the competition this term.
