Liverpool star Sadio Mane interrupted Luis Diaz’s interview with the media after their 3-1 win in the Champions League against Benfica. The Reds take a crucial lead into the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Anfield next Wednesday.
Ibrahima Konate opened the scoring early in the first half before Diaz assisted teammate Mane for their second goal of the evening. However, there was brief spell the hosts looked like they could turn the match on its head after Darwin Nunez got a goal back after the break.
It was the Colombia international that later scored the crucial goal to put the game to bed and ensure the Reds take a much-needed two-goal cushion back to Merseyside.
As Diaz spoke to the media post-match, Mane burst in on the interview to embrace and congratulate his teammate, who played a crucial role in the victory on the night. The heartwarming moment is yet another example of how Diaz has settled into the squad following his arrival from Porto in the January transfer window.
He’s already scored three goals for the Reds in all competitions and he came in to the starting line-up on Tuesday night after he was rested for the the Premier League clash with Watford over the weekend.
When asked whether Klopp will make further changes for the all-important meeting with Manchester City on Sunday, Mane said in an interview with BT Sport: “You’ll have to ask the boss! We are Liverpool, we have a deep squad. Sometimes we make changes to benefit the whole team.”
The Senegal international is in fine form after he scored his 15th goal of the season in all competitions, but he insists the result is more important than individual performances. He added: “Like I always say, winning is more important.
“I am happy to score the goal but more happy that the team scored three goals and we are ready for the next game.”
