Report: Erik Ten Hag wants to beat Arsenal to sign ‘sensational’ £50m star if he becomes Manchester United manager

According to a report from The Sun, Erik Ten Hag’s priority transfer target if he becomes the next Manchester United manager is Arsenal-linked Ruben Neves.

The Wolves midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time now. It looked like Granit Xhaka was on his way to Roma last year and the Portugal international was reportedly viewed by the Gunners as his replacement.

However, Xhaka stayed put and so did Neves. Arsenal still reportedly retain an interest in the 25-year-old, who has been branded as ‘sensational’ by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

Mikel Arteta’s side will not be the only ones keen to sign Neves this summer, it looks like Manchester United will be in the race as well – if they appoint Ten Hag as their next manager.

Erik Ten Hag wants to sign Arsenal-linked Ruben Neves for Manchester United

Ten Hag, currently at the helm at Ajax, has reportedly been in advanced negotiations with Manchester United over the last few weeks. It is looking likely that the Dutchman will take charge of the Red Devils next season and he already knows who he wants to sign first.

The report claims that Ten Hag’s priority target if he becomes the new Old Trafford boss is Neves.

The Wolves man is someone he has been watching for years now, according to the report, and he is convinced that Neves is the right fit for the system he plans on employing at Manchester United.

Neves will enter the final two years of his contract this summer and he is expected to be sold by Wolves if he doesn’t pen a new deal.

Neves, reportedly valued at £50 million by Wolves, is up there with the best midfielders in the Premier League.

He may not do something incredible everytime he touches the ball, but he very rarely has a bad game and has been an extremely reliable player for Wolves over the last few years.

Arsenal really could do with a player as good as Neves but so could Manchester United.

It may all just boil down to who finishes in the final Champions League spot – Arsenal are a lot likelier to get there than Manchester United considering how the table is looking at this moment in time.
