Chelsea are reportedly interested in RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol ahead of this summer.
According to The Telegraph, Gvardiol is actually one of the top priorities Chelsea are looking at to improve their defence going into next season.
The report explains the Blues are planning to move swiftly in the transfer market once the Todd Boehly-led consortium officially complete their takeover at Stamford Bridge.
Gvardiol, who’s a star in the German Bundesliga with Leipzig, is seeing his reputation start to rise across Europe.
The 20-year-old is a left-footed centre-back with plenty of attributes to replace exit-bound Antonio Rudiger at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea interested in Josko Gvardiol
Gvardiol’s recently been linked as a target for Chelsea, with Tottenham reportedly fearful of losing the race to sign the Leipzig centre-half to their London rivals.
However, the Telegraph’s update that the youngster is a defensive priority for Thomas Tuchel’s side is an intriguing one.
The Croatia international already looks a mature defender for someone his age and there’s a massive hole opening in the Blues XI at the Bridge.
Incidentally, it’s been reported that he could cost £50million to prize away from Germany this summer.
Levi Colwill loan?
If Chelsea sign Gvardiol, another loan for 19-year-old Blues loanee Levi Colwill could make sense next season.
The English centre-back has been a huge success during his loan in the Championship with Huddersfield Town, which is why some fans want to see the left-footed defender drafted into Tuchel’s plans.
However, Gvardiol seems a more ready-made Rudiger replacement.
A loan to a Premier League side next term for Colwill seems a no-brainer.
