Report: Arsenal ready to double Barcelona offer for Ronald Araujo

Arsenal have already touched base with Ronald Araujo and informed the defender that they are prepared to pay more than double the amount Barcelona have offered in the contract offer currently on the table, according to a report from ABC.

Araujo has been a stalwart for Barca this season. He also scored his fourth league goal of the campaign at the weekend as the Catalan giants beat Real Madrid 4-0 in El Clasico.

But he faces an uncertain future. His contract at the Nou Camp expires at the end of next season. And so far, Barcelona have been unable to agree fresh terms with the Uruguayan.

ABC reports that Barca have offered Araujo a deal worth £3.33 million per year. And they are not thought to be willing to increase their offer further.

Recent reports claimed that Arsenal had offered Araujo a contract worth £100,000-a-week. But perhaps, the Gunners’ offer may be even more lucrative than that.

ABC reports that Arsenal have indeed made contact with Araujo. And their offer is worth more than £128,000-a-week. That is double what Barcelona have offered.

Araujo would be an amazing signing for Arsenal

Araujo is one of the most talented centre-backs plying their trade in Europe right now. His release clause is reportedly worth £167 million.

He has been labelled ‘powerful‘ by Gerard Pique. And it is clear that he has a brilliant career ahead.

It would therefore, be an amazing piece of business for Arsenal to sign Araujo.

The Gunners, of course, are looking to be on course to secure a return to the Champions League next season. And with that, Mikel Arteta may be hoping to improve the options available to him.

Gabriel Magalhães and Ben White have been outstanding this term. And the Gunners also have William Saliba to come back into the fold.

Adding Araujo to the mix would be a remarkable move for Arsenal.
