Ian Wright has made it clear that Liverpool’s hopes of winning the quadruple this season is just a ‘pipe dream’, as he told Premier League Productions.
The Highbury legend added that’s the ‘last thing’ Liverpool will be thinking about after they reached the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, after a recent gigantic battle in the Premier League with Pep Guardiola and his players, were 3-0 to the good inside the first half at a packed-out Wembley, well the Liverpool end anyway.
The Premier League champions were getting ripped to shreds, only for two second-half goals to make the game more respectable for those in blue and send a shockwave of nerves to those singing ‘you will never walk alone’.
Nonetheless, this is what Wright had to say after Liverpool’s FA Cup win and those talks of winning the lot this season.
“The quadruple is a pipe dream,” said Wright. “Until you get to the next stage of what you might be able to do to knock another trophy off.
“It’s the last thing Liverpool will be thinking of because it’s too much pressure. You need so many things to go for you to win the treble, let alone the quadruple. I just think they will be looking to the next game. They will just knock it off.
“We can talk about it, but Liverpool are just going about their business. They are an amazing football team.”
There is a reason no team in English football history has lifted all four trophies, because it’s near-on impossible.
But, maybe, just maybe, the treble could be done by this ruthless and free-scoring Liverpool side.
They already have the League Cup in the bag and either Chelsea or Crystal Palace await them in the FA Cup final.
Man City still lead the charge in the Premier League, whilst in the Champions League, the Reds would have to seriously kick themselves in the foot not to beat Villarreal in the semi-final.
