Norwich City are preparing for Max Aarons to leave the club this summer with Manchester United named as potential suitors, according to TEAMtalk sources.
Aarons, 22, has two years remaining on his current deal at Carrow Road. But he is now set to leave following their relegation after making his debut in 2018.
The right-back made 34 Premier League appearances last season and made two assists. He was one of the Canaries’ better performers in a season which saw them finish bottom after 26 defeats from 38 games.
And Aarons, who came through the Norwich academy, now looks set to move on. And the England Under-21 star will not have any shortage of takers.
TEAMtalk understands Manchester City have been long-term admirers of Aarons. They are believed to still be keeping tabs on him, whilst Manchester United and Arsenal also see him as a possible option.
That will come as music to the ears of United legend Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand has been pushing the claims of Aarons, as Erik ten Hag gets his recruitment hat on at Old Trafford.
“Someone like Max Aarons you could put him like a Chris Smalling-type signing where they come in and they have an impact,” he said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show.
“They may not be straight starters immediately. But they go and they stay there for 10 years and have a really good career and they impact the club at different levels.”
United and Ten Hag are certainly looking for a right-back after Aaron Wan-Bissaka reportedly became the first victim on Ten Hag’s reign.
Wan-Bissaka replacement?
Sky Sports have reported than Wan-Bissaka has been made available for transfer by the new regime.
Whether Ten Hag has given the green light to pursue Aarons remains to be seen. But United have him on their radar and the Dutchman has already met with United officials to discuss recruitment.
However, a host of other clubs are also tracking the star.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking for a replacement for Hector Bellerin. The Spaniard has been on loan at Real Betis and is eager to turn his loan into a permanent transfer.
That would leave a hole in Arteta’s squad that will need filling, especially with Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury problems.
Leicester, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leeds United are also amongst the club who have also made enquiries for Aarons.
