Mason Mount admitted that it’s been difficult to concentrate with all the uncertainty swirling around Chelsea at the moment.
Speaking yesterday after the Blues beat Norwich City 3-1 yesterday, Mount confessed to feeling slightly distracted by all the outside noise caused by the actions involving Roman Abramovich.
Abramovich and sanction-gate
On the day of Chelsea’s trip to Carrow Road, it was announced the UK government had sanctioned Abramovich and frozen his assets.
This moment has been building ever since he tried to hand over the club to a board of trustees, 24 hours before the Carabao Cup final.
The Russian then put the organisation up for sale last Wednesday, attempting to beat the punishment finally placed upon him by the government.
Cutting off contact with his possessions was part of a wider response to those Russian oligarchs connected in some way to Vladimir Putin.
If there were doubts about Chelsea’s future ahead of the sanction, it’s difficult to comprehend how nervous many involved in the situation must feel now.
For staff members, there’s no guarantee they’ll still be in a job at the end of the season.
Some supporters don’t know when they’ll next be able to see the team play live.
Mount speaks honestly
Of all the people affected, players probably earn the least amount of sympathy.
But they are still human after all, with human emotions involved in an extremely human and scary scenario.
“It’s not been easy, when you see what’s happening behind the scenes and everything going on, it can be hard to focus,” responded Mount in a very human way.
“But I thought we have been brilliant, especially today with everything that has happened away from the pitch, for us to stay focused, to stay on the ball to win this game, I thought we were brilliant,” he continued about last night’s Premier League victory.
“We have to just focus on what we can do on the pitch.”
Big up the boys in Blue
Full credit goes to Thomas Tuchel and his team for blocking out the noise and winning in style on Thursday.
They showed real swagger to put three past Norwich on the road, with Mount playing a starring role.
He scored against the Canaries for a sixth time, plus provided an assist just three minutes into the fixture.
Out of anybody within the squad, these past few weeks must’ve been especially troubling for the Cobham academy graduate.
His life has been blue pretty much since childhood.
Everything he knows and loves looks extremely unsettling.
So, the fact Mount is still pulling on the shirt with pride says it all about the young man’s character.
