Manchester United set to bid for Spurs target Bastoni

Manchester United are set to bid for Alessandro Bastoni as they look to beat Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur to the Inter Milan star’s signature, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Bastoni could well be on the way to the Premier League this summer. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most talented young centre-backs around.

Reports have claimed that Conte has told Tottenham to sign Bastoni whatever the price. And the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Spurs are indeed monitoring him closely.

However, they also note that Manchester City have previously asked for information on Bastoni. And they could make a move this summer. Meanwhile, Manchester United are very much in the running.

In fact, Erik ten Hag’s men are preparing an offer. They do know that the Nerazzurri will not consider anything less than £51.2 million (€60 million) for Bastoni.

Tottenham will not let them have a clear run to his signature, however. Gazzetta adds that Conte believes that Bastoni is destined to become one of the world’s best in his position.

Manchester United set to bid for Bastoni

Bastoni is not the only centre-back Manchester United and Tottenham are battling over. Reports on Tuesday claimed that they have both made a bid of around £43 million for Pau Torres.

Torres would reportedly rather head to Old Trafford. So it appears to be imperative that Tottenham win the race for Bastoni.

Certainly, Bastoni moving elsewhere would devastate Conte.

Tottenham will not want to disappoint their manager. They are moving in the right direction. But keeping the Italian seems absolutely crucial.

Bastoni labelled Conte ‘phenomenal‘ while they were together at Inter. So you would imagine that he would be keen on joining Tottenham.

The onus is on Spurs therefore, to act quickly before he joins another Premier League side.
