Man Utd news: Cristiano Ronaldo could miss Spurs match as striker ‘holds showdown talks’

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo may miss the game against Tottenham Hotspur through injury, after reports suggested he held showdown talks with his agent

Man United forward Cristiano Ronaldo may miss his side’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur following his Manchester derby absence.

The United forward wasn’t even in the stands at the Etihad Stadium as United fell to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to their bitter rivals on Sunday.

Reports have suggested the superstar forward flew home to his native Portugal after being ruled out with injury.

And he has now reportedly held ‘showdown talks’ with his agent Jorge Mendes as he plots his Old Trafford escape route.

But Ronaldo could be set to miss the tie with Tottenham Hotspur with the same injury that ruled him out last weekend.

It comes as United have suffered a blow in their hunt for their next permanent boss.

Manager blow

Manchester United have suffered a blow in their hunt for their next permanent manager.

Among the frontrunners for the job has been former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

But the Paris Saint-Germain manager may have indicated that he would not be likely to accept the manager’s job at Old Trafford should it be offered to him this summer.

Speaking before his side’s Champions League tie against Real Madrid, the Argentine spoke about his time at Spurs and may have dropped a hint over where his future lies.

Ronaldo’s ‘showdown talks’

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly held showdown talks with his agent following his absence in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

The Portuguese striker didn’t even attend the derby against bitter rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday amid reports he had been ruled out through a hip flexor injury.

But contrasting reports have suggested the forward was left out of the starting XI by Ralf Rangnick.

And Ronaldo, who is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, is now said to be seeking a move away from the Old Trafford outfit after becoming disillusioned with life at the club

Ronaldo could miss Spurs tie

Cristiano Ronaldo may be ruled out of the Tottenham Hotspur match with the same injury that kept him out of the Manchester derby last weekend.

The striker has suffered a recurrence of the hip flexor injury that kept him out of the game against Aston Villa earlier in the season, according to interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

He then flew out to Portugal before the match against City, returning to training at United’s Carrington ground on Tuesday with two bodyguards in tow.

The striker has now been assessed by the club’s physios ahead of their next game – and it seems the initial verdict is not good.
