Man United ‘willing to offer’ two players as part of Frenkie de Jong move

Man United could include two first-team regulars as part of any deal to sign Frenkie de Jong.

Manchester United are undoubtedly going to look a whole lot different next season.

Erik ten Hag will be in the dugout, while several of these underperforming United stars will be leaving as soon as the summer window opens.

To replace them, money will have to be spent. Several names have been linked, with a move for Frenkie de Jong being talked up by the media recently. Earlier today, we covered a claim which suggested the Reds ‘want’ to sign the Dutchman this summer.

Now, Catalan publication Fichajes, with the translation coming via the MEN live blog, have another update for us in that brewing saga; and it’s a big one.

According to their report, United are indeed interested in signing De Jong. However, in an attempt to lower the transfer fee, United are ‘willing to offer’ two first-team regulars as part of the deal to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.

Those two players may come as somewhat surprising. Well, one of them at least; Marcus Rashford(!) and Alex Telles.

Apparently, United are trying to lower the overall asking price by offering Barcelona two players in positions they need reinforcements in; left-back and striker.

Rashford is particularly intriguing. The Englishman has had his own struggles this season, though offering him in some sort of swap deal means that United aren’t completely against moving on from their number ten.

In regards to Telles, the fans have had enough. The Brazilian blatantly isn’t good enough in the defensive third of the field to start regularly in a side with title aspirations. It really is that simple. Would Barca want to bring him in? Who knows…

De Jong feels like someone who is a direct upgrade on Scott McTominay and Fred, though I’m not sure I’d be breaking the bank to bring in the Dutchman.
