Man City forward ‘in the running’ to replace Suarez at Atletico

Atletico Madrid have reportedly shortlisted Man City striker Gabriel Jesus as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez.

The Brazilian international signed for the Premier League side for around £28m in January 2017.

He has made 223 appearances for the Citizens. He has scored 88 goals and provided 43 assists for his team.

Jesus is out of contract in 2023 with his future at the Etihad Stadium up in the air.

Luis Suarez is expected to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer when his contract expires, and the City striker is being lined up as a potential replacement for the Uruguayan, according to Sport (via Sport Witness).

Suarez helped Atletico win the La Liga title last season but has been in and out of Diego Simeone’s starting XI this term.

Atletico have ‘several strikers in the running’ – including Jesus – to replace the 35-year-old.

The report labels Jesus as ‘one of the best players in the world’, however, he has never been able to ‘establish himself’ in Manchester.

They note that a change of scenery ‘could reactivate his role’ in a big European club.

Man City ‘will be more willing’ to sell Jesus if they sign a new No. 9 in the summer transfer window. They have already completed a deal to sign Julian Alvarez from River Plate but are also reportedly interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

The Gunners are set to be in the market for a new striker this summer. This comes after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club to join Barcelona last month.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are still options for Mikel Arteta but both forwards are out of contract this summer.

“If I was Arsenal, I would go and buy Gabriel Jesus,” Ferdinand said.
