Tottenham are confident Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will still be at the club next month despite strong interest from Real Madrid, sources at the club have told Football Insider.
The Spanish giants have registered their interest in the midfielder, 27, as they work on securing a replacement for Man United-bound Casemiro.
Spurs have spoken to Hojbjerg in recent hours and have no fears that he will leave ahead of the 31 August transfer cut-off.
It could mean Real have to turn their attention elsewhere as they look to secure a proven replacement for Casemiro.
Hojbjerg has three years left on his contract at Tottenham after moving from Southampton in 2020 for a fee of around £15 million.
The Denmark international become Jose Mourinho’s first signing that summer and has remained a virtual untouchable for Spurs under Antonio Conte.
Mourinho tried to lure him to Roma last summer when he took over as manager but his interest was knocked back.
Hojbjerg has begun the new season in impressive form, starting both of Spurs’ games in central midfield and scoring an equaliser as Conte’s team salvaged a late point against Chelsea in last Sunday’s 2-2 thriller.
Conte has given the green light for midfielders Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Giovanni Lo Celso to all be sold, but Hojbjerg remains a key and reliable option.
He faces competition for his place this season from Oliver Skipp, who is approaching fitness, and 2022 arrivals Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur.
He is astong man in the midfield we still need him thanks EMILE
