Luis Diaz mum opens up on son’s life at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp

The remarkable impact of Luis Diaz has brought joy to Liverpool supporters far and wide – and the Colombian’s own mother has offered some fascinating insight on how much he is loving life as a Red.

The 25-year-old winger has hit the ground running since joining Liverpool from FC Porto in January, making 23 appearances, scoring six goals and wowing fans with his breath-taking skills. With a Carabao Cup winners medal already in the bag, Diaz could still finish his first season at Anfield with a hat-trick of cup medals and even as a Premier League champion.

The speed at which the Reds’ latest signing has been able to adapt to life in English football has caught many by surprise but his own mother was only too happy to confirm just how much he is enjoying playing under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to Semana, via Sport Witness, she said: “He is maturing; I see him more serene in everything he does, very disciplined in everything. He is very serious, and responsible in all his work, and that’s why he has done so well. God gives him blessings so that he can continue to excel.

“He is loving with his dad, with everyone, we talk every day. He tells me, ‘mummy, you’re the best mummy in the world; I love you very much’. He doesn’t hold grudges against anyone because he’s always been simple since he was a child, humble; I’ve seen him the same way since he was a child. He tells me, ‘the manager likes me; when I play my games, he hugs me’, and he has also been able to get along with his team-mates. They welcome him for being the way he is.”

Diaz’ eye-catching performances have seen him force his way into Klopp’s starting XI regularly on the left side of the attack – with Sadio Mane recently forced to operate as the central forward. Liverpool’s manager has previously revealed that Diaz has formed a close relationship with Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones but has ‘no idea’ how they communicate, given the Colombian’s currently limited English.
