Liverpool are close to signing Calvin Ramsay and it’s now claimed that Jurgen Klopp approved the pursuit of the Aberdeen talent very quickly.
That’s according to a report from The Athletic, who claim that Ramsay was put forward to Klopp as a potential signing.
Klopp quickly approved the deal, seemingly believing that Ramsay is exactly the type of player he wants at Liverpool.
Liverpool already have a star right back in Trent Alexander-Arnold. Central defender Joe Gomez has deputised for him in recent weeks.
It looks like Neco Williams will be available for purchase this summer with Fulham a likely destination after a strong loan spell.
Conor Bradley is also in the Liverpool ranks but the Reds look set to add another right back this summer in Ramsay.
Reports on Sunday suggested that Ramsay was on the verge of a £4million move to Liverpool.
That report claimed that Leeds United also wanted Ramsay but it was Liverpool who won the race.
The deal isn’t done yet but it looks to be nearing completion despite interest from other clubs in Ramsay.
Leeds have been the main suitor for Ramsay whilst West Ham United have shown an interest in the Scot too.
David Moyes will be well aware of Scotland’s top talent but the pull of Liverpool may simply be too strong.
The Athletic’s report adds that Norwich City and Sassuolo have wanted Ramsay only to seemingly lose out to Liverpool
Leaving Aberdeen for Liverpool looks like a no-brainer on paper but this is a risk for Ramsay.
The 18-year-old has only played 39 first-team games for Aberdeen and is now on the verge of joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Nine assists in those games is an exceptional return and Ramsay now seemingly has the backing of Klopp.
That’s a major boost for Ramsay, whose task of playing first-team football at Liverpool is difficult with Alexander-Arnold in place.
Klopp’s immediate approval of a deal for Ramsay suggests he sees a big future for the Scot and that could tempt the teenager into picking Liverpool.
