Kieran Trippier sends 35-word message to Harry Kane after Spurs record goal

Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier has taken to Instagram to share a message with Harry Kane after the Tottenham Hotspur man became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer yesterday.

Tottenham defeated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium yesterday, in what could prove to be a crucial victory in the race for the top four this season.

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game to give Spurs all three points and take his tally for the campaign to 19 goals in 30 games (Transfermarkt).

It was a significant goal for the 29-year-old in a much bigger and more personal sense, too.

The goal saw Kane join Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer in the 200 club in the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list, and also took him to 267 goals for Tottenham to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer (GOAL).

Kane surpasses the late, great Jimmy Greaves, whose record of 266 goals had stood for over 50 years. The England captain received praise from around the world of football, including from his former Spurs teammate Trippier.

The Newcastle defender previously played with Kane at Tottenham between 2015 and 2019 before moving on to Atletico Madrid, and has played alongside the striker for England, too.

On Instagram, Trippier said: “Congrats Harry Kane. A massive achievement on breaking the record. Been a pleasure to play with you over the years, and I’m sure there are many more goals to come. Hopefully not against my team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

What an achievement by Harry Kane and it’s great to see other players reaching out and congratulating him on breaking the record.

It will be very interesting to see now just how far Kane can go in the next few years and hopefully we will see him take Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record at some point, too.
