Erik ten Hag is said to be an admirer of out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur winger, Steven Bergwijn.
Knowing where to start in terms of transfers is going to be impossible for Manchester United this summer. They have issues in pretty much every position of the pitch.
I’d imagine Erik ten Hag will have his ideas and strategies, with the Dutchman no doubt keen on surrounding himself with players he’s familiar with. It’s why we believe Donny van de Beek will get a chance at redemption during the 2022/23 term.
A new name has been thrown into the mix over the last 24 hours; Tottenham Hotspur winger, Steven Bergwijn.
The Dutchman was once a target for Ten Hag during his time at Ajax, though the Eredivisie side were never able to land his signature. However, the incoming United manager remains ‘a fan’ of the 24-year-old winger. That’s according to The Athletic.
Bergwijn is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer as his playing time has seriously dwindled under Antonio Conte, with the London club not standing in his way.
United will face stiff competition to acquire Bergwijn if they decide to firm up their interest with an official bid. However, that looks unlikely at this point, with ‘nothing concrete’ in the United rumours as things stand.
What’s intriguing about Bergwijn is his versatility. This is someone who can slot into the side in a variety of positions. That could be a massive attraction to Ten Hag, particularly when you factor in the Dutchman’s Premier League experience, too.
At the right price, I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to this move. However, Daniel Levy is as tough as negotiators come and he will not sell to a Premier League rival cheaply.
