Manchester United have a couple of potential injury doubts ahead of their clash with Manchester City on Sunday but Ralf Rangnick will be able to call upon a number of returning players.
Rangnick has had to contend with plenty of injuries since he took the reins from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but could potentially have a fully-fit squad at his disposal for the trip to City. It would be the first time he’s had such a luxury in weeks.
United go into the crucial Manchester derby in a poor run of form with just two wins in their last seven games, and a victory at the Etihad would provide a timely boost in the race to finish in the top four.
Rangnick has been without Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay for recent fixtures but both returned to training this week meaning that, on paper at least, United have a clean bill of health. Veteran striker Cavani has missed the last five matches due to a groin strain but returned to training on Thursday and Rangnick revealed he could be in the squad against City.
“Yeah, he has been back in training since yesterday,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “Today [Friday] was his second session. He looks good, so I think he could at least be part of the group for Sunday.”
Though he wasn’t mentioned in the conference, McTominay was back in training earlier in the week after illness made him unavailable for the draws with Atletico Madrid and Watford. It appears that he is in contention to return on Sunday.
