Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Antonio Conte has been ‘furious’ with the Tottenham players’ attitude for several weeks before he finally decided to go public with his complaints on Saturday.
Conte certainly did not hold back in his criticism of the Spurs players after the Lilywhites failed to hold on to a 3-1 lead against Southampton with 15 minutes to go, with the Saints scoring two late goals to salvage a draw.
The Italian questioned the lack of desire from the Tottenham players and accused them of being selfish (Football.London).
Romano has now explained that the Spurs head coach had already been furious with the behaviour of his squad a few weeks ago, which is why he never had any concrete negotiations with the club regarding a new contract.
The journalist revealed that the 53-year-old was far from happy with the players’ attitude in the two legs against AC Milan as he felt that an obsession to win was missing in the dressing room.
Romano revealed that Conte had already been clear to the players about his thoughts and decided to go public yesterday since he does not want things to continue as they are.
Finally, he added that both parties expect to part ways at the end of the season, with the Tottenham head coach planning on returning to Italy.

If there is a problem with the players’ attitude, that is completely on Conte, given that the Italian has been given a free rein to build the squad he wants.
Since Conte arrived, Spurs have snapped up 11 new players in Kulusevski, Bentancur, Romero (permanently) Richarlison, Perisic, Lenglet, Bissouma, Spence, Forster, Danjuma and Porro.
All the players who are still at the club are the ones that Conte and his coaching staff have decided to keep. So, blaming the squad for a poor attitude reflects poorly on the Italian’s own decision-making.
