West Ham United are interested in signing Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard this summer after a season on loan in the Championship.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (17/04, p71), who claim that David Moyes’ Hammers want to bring the 21-year-old to the London Stadium.

The Irons scouts have reportedly been making frequent checks on the centre-back, who is currently on loan at Hull City, ahead of a potential move in the summer window.

Former Manchester United manager Moyes sees potential in Bernard and is hoping to use the route to first team football as a way of luring him away from Old Trafford.

Bernard’s route to breaking into United’s first team looks nigh on impossible, so a summer move could well be something that appeals to the former Chelsea academy star.

Aside from a Europa League appearance in Kazakhstan, in November 2019, Bernard hasn’t featured for the Manchester United first team.

After making 30 appearances during a loan spell with League Two side Salford City last season, Bernard has successfully managed the step up to the Championship this campaign.

Bernard has made 28 appearances for the Tigers, 26 of which have been starts.

After seven consecutive games of being an unused substitute, Bernard made an eight-minute cameo appearance in Hull’s 2-1 win against Cardiff City on Good Friday.

Bernard has also featured at right-back this season and that additional versatility may appeal to Moyes.

West Ham may face competition as Hull boss Shota Arveladze has previously told Hull Live that he wants to buy Bernard and keep him at the club long-term.

Bernard’s contract at the Theatre of Dreams expires in 2024, but it seems that the youngster is going to be the subject of enquiries this summer.
