Antonio Conte has told Tottenham Hotspur’s media team that the performance of Harry Kane in Spurs’ win over Aston Villa must not be forgotten, with the Italian insisting that he was incredible on Saturday.
Tottenham are firmly in pole position for fourth spot in the Premier League. They are now three points clear of Arsenal after the Gunners were beaten earlier in the day.
Spurs took full advantage of their loss. Tottenham were absolutely devastating in the final third, putting four past Villa to make it four victories on the spin.
Son Heung-min bagged a brilliant hat-trick, while Dejan Kulusevski scored the crucial second goal at the start of the second-half.
But it is impossible to argue with those who would suggest that Kane was the man of the match. The striker provided the assists for the first three goals.
He may not have known a lot about the first assist. But he was absolutely outstanding. And he now has 21 goal involvements in the Premier League this term, with 12 goals and nine assists.
And Conte was keen to stress just how important Kane had been to they victory when asked about the front three after the full-time whistle.
“We can talk about Sonny because he scored three goals, Kulusevski scored one goal, but don’t forget Kane’s performance. He was incredible. And I repeat, many tactical situations we are doing during the week, that happened during the game,” he told Tottenham Hotspur’s media team.
Tottenham are edging closer to be able to convince Harry Kane to stay
Of course, much can change before the summer. But it really does appear that that top-four spot is Tottenham’s to lose. They are playing some scintillating football right now. And they have been absolutely devastating in front of goal.
Kane may indeed be playing the best football of his career right now. And with that, it is becoming harder to imagine him leaving in the summer.
Tottenham are moving in the right direction under Conte. And they could well have a massive ceiling.
They need to go on and wrap up that fourth spot. But should they do so, Kane is surely going to struggle to justify leaving.
