Chelsea player ‘waiting for new owners’ to allow transfer – Club ‘willing to pay’ for him, agreement in place

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has been successful in his efforts to sell Chelsea. At the weekend, the Blues announced the ‘terms have been agreed for a new ownership group’ to acquire the club.

This development may have an impact on Barcelona’s chances to sign César Azpilicueta in the summer window.

Xavi Hernández’s side have been keen to acquire the Chelsea captain’s services on a free transfer. However, that won’t be possible since it’s now believed his contract was extended until 2023.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo states the defender and the La Liga side have already found an agreement for a two-year deal, with an option to extended it by a year.

It’s also claimed the Spain international had a ‘commitment’ with Chelsea’s former owner, to leave after this season.

With last weekend’s development, the 32-year-old is ‘waiting for new owners’ to ask for a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Barcelona, for their part, would be ‘willing to pay’ a fee to bring Azpilicueta to the Camp Nou. They ‘love’ his versatility as the Spaniard can operate as a fullback and in the heart of defence.
