Manchester City fans believe Bernardo Silva has been the club’s top performer so far this season, while Raheem Sterling is at the bottom of the pile.
With 11 games played in the Premier League, we’re now just about a third of the way into the season and it’s been a pretty good start for City.
Despite a loss to Tottenham on the opening day as well as the recent loss to Crystal Palace, Pep Guardiola’s side sit second in the table – three points off Chelsea – having picked up wins against the leaders, Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United and drawing with Liverpool.
Though there was the disappointment of a first loss in the Carabao Cup for over five years, ending their reign as champions, the Blues can at least take solace in the fact that they top their Champions League group, which includes PSG, and are one point away from qualification.
City were down in ninth at the same point last season so it certainly bodes well for their title aspirations and there have been plenty of excellent performances from the players.
MEN Sport asked City fans to rate all of the first-team squad on how good they’ve been so far this season and topping the ranks is Bernardo Silva with 9.2.
After a difficult couple of seasons in which he slipped down Guardiola’s pecking order and a summer when it looked as though he could leave the Etihad, the Portuguese has come back with a bang in the current campaign and has been indispensable for Guardiola.
Bernardo has started all but one, the loss to Spurs, of City’s games in the league and Europe this season and has been sensational in the middle of the park, his tireless running and close control on the ball helping dominate teams in midfield. His latest great showing came in Saturday’s Manchester derby victory in which he scored the second goal.
Just behind him, with a rating of 9, is compatriot Joao Cancelo, who is continuing to show that City don’t need to spend money on a natural left-back as he is so good in the position despite being right-footed.
Phil Foden (8.8), Ruben Dias (8.6) and Rodri (8.4) round out the top five.
Lower down the table on 7.2 comes Kevin De Bruyne, who has struggled to find his top form this season after an exhausting summer, Cole Palmer clocks in at a respectable 7 after making his breakthrough into the first-team and on 6.7 is record signing Jack Grealish, who is yet to fully find his feet in Manchester.
Holding up the table is Sterling, who fans have handed a rating of just 5.1. The forward is once again struggling for form and minutes this season, despite his excellent summer with England, as he continues to be out of favour with Guardiola.
