Barcelona’s contract renewal talks with promising youngsters hit a ‘dead point’

As per the latest report from SPORT, Barcelona’s contract negotiations with promising prospects, Ronald Araujo and Gavi have hit a standstill over wages.

Both the players have grown into vital players for the Blaugrana in the ongoing campaign. Araujo has grown into a leader at the back for the team while Gavi’s youthful exuberance and energy has had a galvanising effect on the side.

However, both players will be entering the final year of their respective contracts with Barça at the end of the season. Gavi’s current deal consists of a release clause worth €50 million, whereas Araujo has a buyout clause of €200 million.

Barcelona have been trying to tie them down to a new deal for a while now. However, they have encountered roadblocks along the way.

Now, the aforementioned report is mentioning that negotiations over their renewals have hit a ‘dead point’ due to differences in wages being demanded and offered.

Gavi and Araujo are believed to be asking for a salary on par with fellow youngsters Ansu Fati and Pedri, both of whom were handed new contracts recently. The duo feels that the current proposals do not properly reflect their status within the squad.

Barça, though, are insistent that they are not willing to compromise on their position, despite reports claiming that they were willing to up their offer recently.

“If they want to continue, they will continue, but with Barça’s conditions,” is the stance that the Catalan giants are taking, reports SPORT.

Both Gavi and Araujo have plenty of interest from across Europe, with clubs from the Premier League, in particular, very keen. So Barcelona will need to act swiftly and strike an agreement with the pair or they risk losing out two players who can be part of the core of the team for years to come.
