Barcelona have stepped up their plans for the summer transfer window and seem to be keeping an eye on the German Bundesliga in particular for potential new recruits.
Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund has been the Catalan giants’ top target for a while. But with the Norwegian likely to head to Manchester City or Real Madrid, they have switched their focus to another Bundesliga superstar in Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
Furthermore, RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo has also been very much on the radars of the Blaugrana.
Now, it seems like another superlative talent from the Bundesliga has caught the fancy of Barcelona. Foot Mercato is reporting that the Catalan giants are interested in raiding RB Leipzig for French attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku.
The 24-year-old came through the ranks at PSG and was widely regarded as one of the finest prospects in France. But a lack of game-time with the first team compelled the versatile attacking midfielder to join Leipzig in 2019 and he has simply thrived at the club.
Nkunku is enjoying a sensational 2021/22 campaign, in particular, having already plundered 27 goals and 17 assists from just 40 games across all competitions. It has put him on the radars of elite clubs from all over Europe, with Barcelona also now eyeing the Frenchman.
However, the report adds that Nkunku’s former club, PSG, are also very much on the hunt for his signing and are desperately trying to bring him back to Parc des Princes. His past ties with the club and their financial might do give Les Parisiens an advantage in the race.
Nkunku still has two years left on his contract with RB Leipzig and considering his form, the French international will cost a significant transfer fee. That could be an issue for Barcelona as they are prioritising a move for a top-quality striker in the summer.
