Barcelona are confident about agreeing personal terms with striker target

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has made his requirements clear as he wishes to strengthen four positions in the squad.

A new top-quality centre-forward is the main priority for the gaffer as Barça look to equip him with a squad capable enough to take the team back to the perch of Spanish and European football.

While Erling Haaland had been identified as the main target for Barcelona, the focus has now shifted towards Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski.

The 33-year-old is entering the final year of his deal with the German champions and wants a long-term deal, which they are unwilling to hand him. It has led to speculations over his future, with the Blaugrana keeping a close eye on his situation at the Allianz Arena.

According to a fresh report from SPORT, Lewandowski and his entourage are set to meet Bayern Munich imminently to discuss his future. The Poland international’s camp wants a three-year contract and are prepared to leave if such an offer is not forthcoming from Die Roten.

Barcelona are believed to be keeping tabs on the developments in Lewandowski’s situation as they prepare to make a swoop. The Catalans have held talks with the striker’s agent to inform him that they would be willing to sign him if he was available for an affordable price.

The La Liga giants would also be open to meeting the 33-year-old’s demands of a three-year contract. And they are confident that he would agree the terms put forward should it become clear that he will not continue in Germany.

However, everything hinges on how the meeting between Lewandowski’s camp and Bayern Munich goes. The German champions have made it clear that they do not wish to lose their prolific star and could dig their heels and force him to stay at the club till his contract expires.

Barcelona believe that a player of Lewandowski’s calibre would elevate the level of the team. However, contrary to reports, there is no agreement between the two parties and they will only make a play for his signing once the picture over his contract situation becomes clearer.

They have other alternatives lined up, while Barça have not given up on their pursuit of Haaland either.
